58. Step Ahead Training Centre and Preschool – Khao Lak

Step Ahead Khao Lak, part of YWAM Relief and Development, was set up in response to the 2004 Asian Tsunami, in which many thousands of people around the Khao Lak area lost family members, friends, homes and businesses. The vision for the training centre, based on Jeremiah 29:11, is to bring hope to the people of this area by enabling them to develop their core employability skills in areas such as English, German, Hospitality and Computers, demonstrating God's love in action and through relationship. Teams coming to work at the centre have the opportunity to either assist in the ongoing English training program or plan and run short courses of their own design (i.e. teaching German, Swedish, baking...).The four Step Ahead Preschools are all located around the Khao Lak area and reach out to their local communities through providing day care for children of ages 2-6. Teams have the opportunity to lead the children in some basic English, join in play sessions and provide English training for the preschool staff. There are also opportunities for teams to serve in local Thai Government schools through sports camps or teaching English! For further information, feel free to check out their website - http://www.stepaheadmed.org

Vision - To see comprehensive transformation through microfinance and personal development training (English, Computer, Hospitality) that demonstrates the love of God in action among poor, disadvantaged, or marginalized individuals, families, and communities in Thailand.
