Dana & Cindy Bratton's Latest Adventures in Ministry

Missionaries to Thailand, Pastor Calvary Chapel at the Bridge June 2008

Our New Grandson

Colin Russell Bratton was born on Monday, 5/19/08 at 2:39am to Nathan and Denise Bratton at Parkview Community Hospital in Riverside weighing in at 6 pounds 11.5oz and 18.5 inches long. Denise's labor was just shy of 5 hours from start of first contraction to delivery. Colin had some mucus in his lungs when he was born and he wasn't feeding so he was being watched in the nursery.  He had some air in his stomach they were going to get rid of by putting a tube down his throat but when they tried the tube wouldn't go down.  It was discovered that he needed surgery due to his esophagus being closed. He was transferred to Loma Linda hospital Monday night.  He had surgery 5/20/08 to correct the problem and he is doing well. His chest tube, feeding tube, and oxygen are all off as of May 30.

Our New Truck

Thanks to the generous donations of supporting churches and individuals we purchased a 1994 Isuzu diesel pick up truck with a camper shell.  Our neighbor Som, was very gracious in lending us his car, but it is so good to have our own vehicle.  We don't have the benches yet in the truck bed, but hope to get them soon.  This wasn't the truck we were hoping to buy in Bangkok, that one sold to another party.  This truck, being older cost less and came through our new friends Sam and Tum.  They live just down the street from us, and they both speak English, Sam is a taxi driver and Tum is a hotel receptionist.  Sam is also the coordinator for English non formal education for our side of the village.  They are going to help us get a work permit which may allow us to apply for a new one year visa right in Phuket without going to the Thai embassy in Malaysia or Singapore.  They helped us to get car insurance, register the truck, get a rear bumper for the truck, and our Thai driver's licenses.  Tum may be our new translator church and Bible study translator, though they are not Christians yet.  We are still talking and praying about that. They invited us for dinner a few nights ago at a Korean barbeque that Sam's sister owns.  Another sister owns the local batik shirt shop, and is one of Cindy's English students.

Cindy just finished this baby blanket for a couple in Ban Nam Khem whose baby is due soon.

Our new relationship with Thachatchai school

Cindy started teaching English Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.  The regular English teacher at the school has not had training in classroom management or in teaching reading, so Cindy is able to be a real help to her.  She met with the principal and a community leader to plan for a long term relationship with the school to help them.

Our concerns for Myanmar and China

In Myanmar following the cyclone that killed thousands, hundreds of thousands are without water and food prices have skyrocketed. We believe that hundreds of thousands are without shelter and many more homes lost their roofs. Tens of thousands of people are missing. Pastor Joe with Love In Action who oversees the Calvary Chapels in Thailand and ministry in Myanmar is there.  Also our former supervisor, John Quinley from Step Ahead is there with a team to help. Pray that the Burmese government will lift restrictions on receiving foreign aid and that the door will open to share the Gospel.  Joe and Joann Cochran have a large ministry among the Burmese in Calvary Chapel Ban Nam Khem.

Nicky a young lady we met in Perth Australia is with a team in Sichuan Province.  They were not injured or seriously affected by the earthquake, but are now in a good position to offer help.  The team was already helping university students.  People fear a lake, formed in the May 12 earthquake when a landslide blocked a river, could burst its barrier and flood the area. The death toll from the devastating earthquake now stands at 67,183. Another 20,790 people are listed as missing and more than five million people are homeless.

Our Prayer Requests

Pray for the people of Myanmar and China who are suffering grief over the loss of loved ones and many are still struggling to survive.  Pray that their physical and spiritual needs will be met.

Pray for Southern Thailand and especially for Calvary Chapel at the Bridge, the church plant in Thachatchai, Phuket.  Philip Anderson is continuing to translate our Friday night Bible study and Sunday church services.  Last Thursday I took Som with me so he could pray for the people and we watched a movie on the life of Jacob in Thai.

Pray for our village that many more people will come to faith in Christ.

Pray for Cindy as she teaches English classes at Thachatchai school four days a  week and adults two times a week in our home.  She plans soon to offer additional classes for adults in the community including the local police.

Pray that the stewards of the Community Center which is Food for the Hungry in Bangkok, and leaders in the village will labor together to develop programs for the Community Center and that we will together be able to raise support for air conditioning and an acoustic ceiling.

Pray that God will enlighten the minds and understanding of Buddhists, to recognize God as the only true God.   Pray that the Lord will send more laborers for the harvest here.  We urgently need a translator and we still need a new children's worker who also speaks English, so she can work with Cindy in children's ministry.

We need some additional monthly support  Support may be sent to YWAM Montana 501 Blacktail Road Lakeside, Montana 59922 U.S.A. Project number 3454.  Pray that will have sufficient finances to pay our U.S. income tax and renew our visa both are due mid June.  $1,580 for taxes and $600 for visa in country otherwise there will be airfare to Malaysia or Singapore in addition.

Pray the Lord will help us to become fluent in Thai so that we can be most effective in sharing the Gospel and training and discipling.   We hope to begin lessons soon with a teacher from the Thachatchai school.

Pray for unity in the church and for God to raise up servant leaders

Pray that one or more YWAM teams will come to help us repair the sidewalks in our community as well as share the Gospel.

Thanks for partnership with us, we greatly appreciate your support through prayer and financial giving.  God bless you,
