Dana and Cindy Bratton Missionaries to Thailand I went to Thailand in January 2005 to assist with disaster relief as a pastor following the tsunami. I ministered in the city of Krabi and on Phi Phi Island. I also taught English in a school near Nua Klong at Laem Kruat. I tried to purchase a Bible for my host family in Thai or English. I went to five different stores, new and used, and found no Bibles at all. This really tugged on my heart, "how will they hear without the Word?" There was a Baptist church in Krabi and I was able to obtain several New Testaments there. I lived with a public school principal for nearly two weeks. I had his permission to share my testimony and teach Bible stories in each English class. Two Muslim teenage girls accepted Christ. When I returned home from this short term trip, I told Cindy we really need to prayerfully consider going to Thailand full time. They lack Bibles, they lack preachers, and yet the field is wide open through the teaching of English. 95% of the population is Buddhist, 4% and increasing are Muslim, and less than 1% are Christian. Cindy and I, and a team of three others, went to Bangkok and to Krabi in July and August 2005. You can see pictures and descriptions of those mission trips by clicking on the navigation buttons below. For current news on our ministry in Thailand please see our news letter page We believe the Lord has given us clear direction to serve Him long term as missionaries in Thailand. We serve with YWAM Thailand, Youth With A Mission. We served five months at the Step Ahead Training Center in Khao Lak Phang Nga (a province in the South) See http://www.stepaheadmed.org/KhaoLak We moved to Thailand in August 2006. The Thai government allows freedom of religion. Teaching English is an excellent way to reach the Thai people for Christ. We finished our Crossroads Discipleship Training in Perth Australia and outreach to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, our next step beginning in June 2007 was a year internship in Bangkok. Where our primary focus was to learn Thai and Thai culture. You've read the newsletters, now you can see pictures of our YWAM school and our team's outreach here:
I have also added some links for churches and other ministries in Thailand at the bottom of the page. We believe this is a time of an open door for the Gospel following the
tsunami and earthquakes in the region. Thailand has a population of approximately 62 million people. Over 1/3
of all Thais live in urban areas—over 11 million of them in Bangkok. Bangkok is one of the most strategic cities in all of Southeast Asia. It is undoubtedly the
gateway city to the rest of Thailand as it functions as the hub for education, government, commerce, transportation,
and religion. There are many in Bangkok in desperate need of prayer.
God is using the
YWAM Thailand,
churches and other ministries to reach the Thai. Dana and Cindy feel a special burden for people in the South
who were affected by the tsunami. About
500,000 live in Phuket. The percentage of Moslems living in Phuket is
about 35%, over 63% Buddhist, and we are one of about 20 churches on the island.
Phuket receives about 6 million visitors per year. Pray for ministry needs
